Blue Bangor – Non Roofing Applications

Due to its exceptional geological properties Welsh slate is popular, not only as a roofing material, but also as an architectural stone for paving, flooring, cladding, walling, countertops etc.

The newly built Viking Museum in Waterford has a Penrhyn Blue Bangor floor and countertop at its reception and we have numerous walling and cladding jobs throughout the country.

The key geological properties which make Welsh slate useful for an architectural application are:

● It is aesthetically attractive and available in a range of different colours
● It is non-porous
● Riven slate has an excellent slip resistance
● It is denser than most granites
● It is chemically inert and resistant to acids, alkalis and other potentially offending chemicals (no need to seal)
● It is free from damaging inclusions such as pyritie, and will last for generations
● It has a low carbon footprint
