Blue Bangor Slates – the world’s strongest & most durable roofing slate

At the turn of the last century, there were almost 400 recorded slate quarries in Wales.  These quarries ranged from small pits to large-scale operations such as the Penrhyn and Dinworig quarries, employing tens of thousands of men.

North Wales is rich in its geology and is famous throughout the word for its wide range of slate.  This slate is available in a wide range of different slates, qualities and textures.  By way of example the Oakely and Cwt-y-Bugial quarries of the Fsteniniog region produce an exceptional thin blue grey slate from the Ordovician era.  Moving into the Nantile valley, the slate seam moves to an older Cambrian seam of slate, giving rise to a heather blue harder slate.
