The Cwt-y-Bugail quarry is a slate quarry based high in the mountains near to Blaenau Ffestiniog, and it is actually the highest industrial site in the UK.

It has been operating since the 1840s and produces what is generally regarded as the world’s finest quality blue grey slate.  It has a dark blue grey riven texture and, similar to its cousin in Penrhyn, is exported all over the world – mainland Europe, Australia, the Americas etc..

Welsh Blue Grey Cwt-y-Bugail slates are available in standard sizes of 500x300mm (20×12”), although larger and smaller sizes are available upon request.

Due to its textured aesthetic appearance, Cwt-y-Bugail slate is popular, not only for roofing, but also for architectural applications such as cladding, walling, paving etc.
